Webmaster Tools Duplicate Meta Descriptions Help

Under the HTML Improvements tab in Webmaster Tools we have listings for duplicate meta descriptions, but the description is in a header CMS block at the top of a product page that can show 4 products to ALL Products of that type. The pages listed as having the duplicate text are appended as "?p=2", "?p=3", "?p=5"; pagination in other words.

How important is the duplicate text?
Does Google actually penalize us for this?
If so, how can we correct this problem?

Yeah it does matter very much for if its possib le avoid duplicate content and yess!! why not ..? Google can definitely penalize you

Google does not penalize sales sites have duplicate content, so please rest assured

Can you point me to an article or something to show me that Google isn't penalizing us for this? Is it because we are an e-commerce site?

Yes, Google penalizing for duplicate meta description. If you want to safe then create your description related to your site and find own important keyword from keyword planner.
