Default How To Install Magento On Google Compute Engine

Google Cloud Engine (GCE) offers reliability and highly scalable infrastructure for ecommerce stores. Thanks to its almost 99.99% uptime, it is fast becoming a popular choice among ecommerce store owners. After all, GCE is the same infrastructure that runs Google Search, Gmail, YouTube and other Google products.

Though GCE is reliable, but to launch a complex Content Management System (CMS) like Magento, you should have a vast experience of system administration. In case you are not familiar with system administration and you need to deploy your Magento website on GCE, then you are quite out of luck. It will take a good amount of effort and time and there is always a chance of error.

Go to Google Cloud Platform and set up an account. Now, navigate to Google Compute Engine and select VM instances. Your Google cloud hosting will be available under the Virtual Machine (VM) instances. To launch the Magento store from scratch, simply click on the “Create” button.

To install Magento on Google Compute Engine, follow these steps:

Create a VM Instance: Go to the Google Cloud Console, navigate to "Compute Engine," and create a new VM instance with an OS like Ubuntu or Debian.

SSH into Your VM: Use the built-in SSH tool in the console to connect to your instance.

Install Required Software: Update your package list, then install Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP stack) along with necessary PHP extensions for Magento.

Download Magento: Fetch the latest version of Magento from the official site or use Composer to install it.

Set Up the Database: Create a new MySQL database and user for Magento, granting necessary privileges.

Configure Magento: Navigate to your web directory, run the Magento installer, and follow the setup prompts to connect to your database and configure site settings.

Finalize Installation: Ensure file permissions are set correctly and configure your web server to point to the Magento directory.
