Porducts in Cart not showing in shopping cart page despite adding totals properly

Hi all, I have noticed having been working on a development site CE ver 1.9 that the shopping cart page does not have the products listed in the description section although the rest of the page is fine .ie adds up correctly all items which were added. The cart module itself also displays the correct no of products added. I may be missing a file here or perhaps missing some configuration setting.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
