Now you do not need to create 100s of simple products just to make 1 configurable product. Get rid of the complexities by using Custom options pricing module by FME, which allows you to create group of options and attach with simple products. You can add image based options as well. This extension has built in CSV pricing feature which is wonderful for variable sized products' pricing.
