    A canonical link element is an HTML element that helps webmasters prevent duplicate content issues in search engine optimization by specifying the "canonical" or "preferred" version of a web page. It is described in RFC 6596, which went live in April 2012.

    Hi Friends,

    A canonical link element, or canonical tag, is found in the HTML header of a webpage and tells search engines if there is a more important version of the page. The canonical tag appears as: rel=”canonical”.

    For example, this line of HTML code tells search engines that the URL “https://xyz.com” is the original version of the page that this tag occurs on:

    <link rel=”canonical” href=”https://xyz.com” />

    The canonical URL allows you to tell search engines that certain similar URLs are actually one and the same!

    A canonical tag is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page. Using the canonical tag prevents problems caused by identical or "duplicate" content appearing on multiple URLs.

    Canonical URL means it is a significant URL version of the website. Canonicalization URL represents the preferred URL of different versions of the similar pages which may be caused by copied content issues. Basically, it helps us to avoid copied content issues.
