He did fine, yes, but what code or pattern did he use? I can't figure it out. He said it was the same as his sight but I couldn't figure it out.

There are many programming languages that are in use and used for different purposes and the widely used programming languages are Python, PHP, most of the programmer (newbies) used Frameworks to get rid of write the code manually.

For the web I would go with JavaScript, Python with Django, or Ruby/Rails. Stay away from PHP and Perl. Agree with this opinion! Just wanted to add that Python is developing very quickly, it made a real breakout during last few years and it is forth among the most popular programming languages.
