To ensure images don’t bog your site down, make sure you compress images in a lossless way. This means that the file size—and, in turn, the load time—will be smaller, but the quality of the image won’t suffer.

Well first you would need to ascess what is making your website slow. Use a online tool like gt metrix or web page sped test. Google pagespeed insights are also good.

Generally speaking the common things to look at in a website design are

    Hosting response time.
    Image optimisations.
    Number of http requests.
Use of a content delivery network.
    Use of gzip compression.
    Implementing cache control headers.
    Avoiding too many redirects.
Serving scaled images to the browser/
    Minify css and JavaScript files.
Combine external resources if you can.
    Load your JavaScript asynchronously.
    Avoiding depreciated and bloated code.

You can use AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) which is an open-source website publishing technology designed to improve the performance of web content and advertisement. The AMP project led by Google is a competitor to Facebook’s instant articles, and includes several other large search, social and web publishing platforms around the world. I also advise to check your hosting provider. I will suggest you to give a try at https://zomro.net/, they have fantastic technical support with 99.9% uptime; if you are not impressed with their service they provide you 30 day's moneyback guarantee.
