In several recent years, the term Business process automation seems not be too strange to business owners. Along with this trend, there is one challenge appeared that is How do you decide between engaging a single vendor or multiple vendors to automate all the myriad tasks that can benefit from technology adoption? In this article, I will list out 5 things of comparison between Single vendor model and Magento multi vendor. Here we go:

1. Best of breed
The name is also the explanatory for it. In theory, a best of breed product refers the best product of its type. However, in fact, it is not easy and simple to be the best or perfect at everything. An integrated solution might be fantastic overall but each single component in that model could be the best of breed. That is the reason why a lot of businesses cobble together solutions that take individual components from separate vendors.

  • Single vendor model: only your are in that store, you are the seller and the administrator, but the chance you can get the best-of-breed functionality will far lower because you cannot take advantages of the diversification.

  • Magento multi vendor: The model help you pick all of the strengths from different partner.

2. Complexity
The complexity I mention is the complexity inherent in integrating and implementing solutions for your business. Of course we have trend of making everything compatible; however, in fact, there are still a lot of legacy systems out there that are not follow software architectures or principles. In detail:

  • Single vendor model: when vendor want to integrate some addons or their own product with pre-existing systems, they might cope with some obstacle because their system is not strong enough.

  • Magento multi vendor: It is an actually powerful and smooth system that need to be enough to contain multiple sellers on it. So, everything seems to be easier if you want to add or do anything.

3. Cost

Of course, the price will not be the same for two model.

  • Single vendor: the price will be different for each type of theme but in overall, all themes for single vendor available on the market are reasonable.

  • Magento multi vendor: You might find that the price of Magento multi vendor is a bit higher than other popular theme for single vendor model but I want to remind that you just have to pay several dollars more but you will own actually powerful sale system.

4. Implementation difficulty

Nothing is perfect and here are some challenges you might face with these two choices:

  • Single vendor: it will generally be less challenging to install single-vendor solutions because it’s only one set of programs/protocols to integrate into your existing systems.

  • Magento multi vendor: because it is multi vendor so it will require more effort to put into place if you want to coordinate the integration of disparate.

5. Vendor survival

That could be the most important because what will store mean if the vendor does not exist.

  • Single vendor: you are the only one on website, if you have proper plan for your business, we are sure that you will likely to stay in business for the long-haul.

  • Magento multi vendor: This is the place where you can make everything tricky. On the one hand, the small and medium business might be best-in-breed in particular areas but with bigger businesses, it will be more complicated. However, the survival of marketplace will depend on not only multistore owners but also other sellers. They may reach a level of success where the bigger players will buy them out.
