Exact match domain is an algorithm update that was dispatched by Google in the year 2012. The motivation behind this update is to keep a few sites from getting rank in light of the fact that their domain names contain words that precisely coordinate the searched term. Each EMD update aims at filtering such sites and gives great positioning to the sites that have enhanced their content.

The EMD update otherwise known as “the exact match domain” update algorithmically targets websites that use an exact match domain to rank for keywords in Google. In short, this update essentially removes the authority normally associated with these domains and in some cases applied a penalty to them.
