    The canonical link element, often called the canonical link. This is an HTML element that you can describe as <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.yourwebsite.com/">. The canonical link elements will help webmasters to deal with duplicate content or duplicate URL's issues.

    Another option for dealing with duplicate content is to utilize the rel=canonical tag. The rel=canonical tag passes the same amount of link juice (ranking power) as a 301 redirect, and often takes much less development time to implement. The tag is part of the HTML head of a web page.

    rel=canonical element, often called the “canonical link”, is an HTML element that helps webmasters prevent duplicate content issues. It does this by specifying the “canonical”, or “preferred”, version of a web page.

    White hat=If you use a white hat tactic, it means you staying within the terms and conditions set by your police officer (your chosen search engine, which will be Google for 99 percent of you).
    Gray hat=Gray hat is a tactic that is merely a mixture of pure white, do only what Google (or whoever) tells us we can and then add a dash of strategies that bend the rules a little.
    Black hat=There are two forms of black hat SEO. It can get very confusing because they are never really clearly separated by definition. Also, depending on which space or vertical you work in, both forms of black hat SEO can mean very, very different things.

    Rel = Canonical helps to tell search engine, that the content of your website is copies from other website. You just need to mention the source of the link from where you are coping the content. The best example for this attribute is mentioning rel canonical tag attribute in index.html or default.html of the website. These pages are nothing but the copy of your domain home page. So you need to mention rel canonical ="your domain home page".

    The rel=canonical can be added in the source of your webpage which works as 301 redirect and passes the same amount of link juice:
    <link rel="canonical" href="url" />

    The url of a rel= canonical link can be a relative link. However, we advise you to use absolute links to prevent problems. The canonical link can only link to a webpage with the same domain.
