To sustain in this competition, Magento eCommerce platform is the first choice of leading web development companies. To deal with the common problem i.e. slow loading speed of Magento eCommerce website, professional developers have come with a solution that would enhance the performance of Magento website.

Magento speed optimization also helps reducing the issues making websites perform poorly. Slow loading website is a serious problem that affects the entire business. It annoys visitors and as a result, they will avoid visiting such websites again. Even the delay of 1-2 seconds can cause huge loss to the online business owners. To retain the customers and invite new once to your website, your online store needs Magento speed optimization.

We have mentioned some tips that can speed up your online store. It will help your store to gain popularity among all the shopaholics around the world.

Tip 1 : Website Elements Compression
A research shows that a user spends 70-80% of the online shopping time on the store front. Only around 20-30% time is spent in the checkout process. So optimizing the front end would make the website performance better. JavaScript and CSS files need to be aggregated and compressed. You can use modules that would help you to compress the files and reduce its size. Several tools are available to compress the themes and images on the website. Too much of compression can damage the picture quality, so make sure you set a limit prior to start compressing the images.

Tip 2 : SQL Queries Execution
If you use SQL queries, it will impact on the speed of the web page. The web page having more queries will have more loading time. If your product webpage displays 50 products with specific information, loading time is inversely affected as every time a product is viewed, a query has to be fired to fetch its related information from the database. Magento data collection should be used for optimizing the queries by storing several products in a single batch when they are loaded. This will speed up your website by reducing the query execution every time a product webpage is loaded.

Tip 3 : Additional Modules and Extension
Using modules and extensions can also impact the speed of your Magento online store. It might be easy to implement and use these modules and extensions, but some of them affect the code of the website. This issue can affect the website’s performance negatively which would result in the requirement of custom development (i.e. costly and time consuming process). Reviewing module code and modifying it as per the standards, prior to integrating is a good practice as it will reduce the loading time, which in turn will offer your customers, a good shopping experience.

We are sure all the above tips will boost your Magento online store performance remarkably! Try them and leave the smiles on your customer’s faces!

Awesome (y). Thanks Johnab for valuable post. Very useful for web developers and business owners. As per our experience we suggest few tips on this topic:
    1) Remove unnecessary CSS, JS if this file not used in our theme
    2) Upload optimized images.
    3) Delete unnecessary themes like modern, basic, etc which are in default folder.
    4) Choose right hosting.
    5) Use Appropriate Magento Extensions.

    Get a dedicated server.
Host your site in the country where your customers are.
Don’t host files on your web server that you do not use, large or small.
Goto MySQL Admin and select all the tables and repair and then optimize them.
Use a PHP accelerator like APC, ZendOptimizer+ or Xcache.
    Only install necessary Apache modules.
Use Apache mod_expires and be sure to set how long files should be cached.

Thank you for such a great post!

There are a lot of ways to enhance total loading time for Magento sites. One important way we can mention more is deferring JavaScript loading till the last moment after all HTML and CSS loading so that a web page will render HTLM and CSS before JavaScript.

Normally, JavaScript and CSS resources are loaded before HTML and the content of page, which can cause Magento sites load slowly. Therefore, to speed up and reduce loading time effectively, we can install an extension called Defer JavaScript extension to automatically defer parsing of JavaScript without taking much time to make complicated code interferes:

    - Automatically defer parsing of JavaScript till the last moment after all HTML and CSS loading
    - Reduce loading time and speed up Magento sites (both Magento 1 and Magento 2)
    - Exclude path/controller in order not to be affected by deferring JAvaScript
    - Work well with Full Page Cache

Along with Magento 1 version, Defer JavaScript for Magento 2 also brings awesome benefits for sites when speeding up and reducing loading time effectively which improves customer experience

Speed is most important for your site, as speed of your website decides whether the customer would stay or not.

Magento site is slow when you put it in a cheap SHARED HOSTING with other websites.

There are more than 30 ways to speedup your magneto performance but here are few of them might help you with:

    1. Latest version: It’s important that you’re running a latest version of Magento [1] coz they generally contain bug fixes and performance improvements.

    2. Get a dedicated server or VPS(Virtual private server) from a well-known company.

    3. Host your site in the Country or at least where your target customers are.

    4. PHP accelerators: If you are PHP6 or lower: use a PHP accelerator like APC etc.

    5. Image Optimisation : Optimise all your template images most of them should be at least below 10 KB.(Specify Image Dimension)

    6. Uninstall any additional extensions that you don’t use.

    7. Clean up Magento database & Logs:Enable all Magento cache system.

    8. Enable Magento compilation

    9. Don’t use layered navigation if your really don’t need it.

    10. Speed testing, analysing and monitoring.
