Hi, By default Magento comes with enabled caching thus avoiding repetition of some of the heaviest operations. However, this is not always enough for Magento to run fast.

Your server is probably not the only factor affecting your site's slow runtime. You may have issues or slowdowns in your site that are preventing users from fulfilling full transactions. I recommend using a web monitoring tool to check your magento store for slow performance areas and other possible runtime errors. Shoppimon is a free monitoring tool made specifically for Magento, so it can locate the factors that may be causing your site to run slowly.

I also suggest checking out this blog post: Optimizing Magento Performance: Solutions to Help Speed Up Your Shop. It has some really helpful methods for optimizing site performance. Good luck with everything!
