    For any ecommerce site or shopping cart to maintain secure there should good password protection, implement security certificate(SSL) for the store, software functionality should be checked regularly, Bugs should be cleared in shopping cart software periodically.     Make sure you are running the latest version of Magento, and/or patch regularly. It is also a good idea to check if your website is infected with malware BEFORE you install security patch.
