Default Permanent Redirect for 404 error

    Hi All,

I have a Magento store consisting more than 10,000 products. It is an Indian fashion wears for women that I have started before two years. Unfortunately, I didn't have any idea about SEO and I have kept its URL formation default except the product names.

Therefore, the URL of a product page consists of store name, category name and subcategory name. Thus it becomes too lengthy and you know Go ogle don't like much lengthy URLs. Now, I want to shorten them and wish to remove store name, categories names.

If I have done this before two years simply telling Magento backend that would be better, but today I have done lots of off-page SEO and plenty of my customers have bookmarked my pages. In due course, before removing store name and category name through Magento Admin I would like to install any pluging or script or do something that gives permanent redirect for my pages i.e. all pages simultaneously so I can save my time to fill up all 10,000 fields twice.

Does any one help me in this regard? if any, I would be grateful a lot.

I think you should keep current URL structure, it will change a lot of keywords position after you change to new URL structure. It 's too sensitive. Only need to turn on canonical then it 's good enough.

10k urls re-index is not a small number for google accept to trust new url in a short time. You should consider to keep current url instead of moving new solution. 301 will work for user but not 100% keep trust url and rank for google.

Thanks, you are right here, immediate changes may be considered as some unusual activities. By the way I have enabled canonical so duplicate content is no more issue here.
