At the more than popular SXSW conference last Friday, The head of Google’s search spam team, Matt Cutts, made an announcement. This announcement will probably not be one which merchants out there like. In basic terms, Matt Cutts, announced that Google will be, in the future, going after the bad merchants out there, using their new algorithm. This algorithm will target the bad merchant sites out there lower their rankings within Google.
Here you can find a quote from Matt himself, talking about the launch of this new algorithm:“We have a potential launch later this year, maybe a little bit sooner, looking at the quality of merchants and whether we can do a better job on that, because we don’t want low quality experience merchants to be ranking in the search results.”It is about as clear as day that Matt is informing the low quality merchants out there to be prepared for a downgrade in their ranking. This algorithm will not only lead to huge drops in traffic but also a drop in sales and revenue for online merchants. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise however. Back in 2010 Google decided to take action against those sleazy merchants out there, specifically those which provided users with an extremely poor user experience. Ever since then however, not much has actually happened, only a small amount of merchants out there were actually affected in anyway. You can expect this algorithm to hit sites out there in either the third or fourth quarter of 2013. As soon as the algorithm is released, we will make sure to cover it straight away.View more threads in the same category:
