Default Create a Magento Web Store

Once you have completed the Magento installation, you can proceed with the configuration of your web site. In this article we have briefed the basic options in Magento, which will help you set up your web store.

By default the main page looks as follows:

    Log into Magento Admin Area

In order to start populating your web site with content, you need to navigate to the Magento's admin area:

    System Configuration

Log in with the details entered during the script installation and navigate to System -> Configuration. Here you can configure the script options per your personal needs. Most options are self-explanatory:

    Magento Catalog

From the Catalog category you can also manage the attributes, rewrite URLs for the products, perform searches, edit tags, generate a GoogleMap and manage reviews and ratings:

    Promotions in Magento

From the Promotions section you can set promotions, define the rules for them and the customers' groups for which the promotions are valid:

    Magento Reports

Multiple comprehensive statistics and reports can be obtained at the Magento admin area -> Reports.

    Magento Base URL

If you want to configure Magento to work with another domain, you can do this by changing the Magento Base URL option in the admin area. To do this, go to your Magento admin area > System > Configuration and click Web on the left menu. Click the Unsecure option and then edit the Base URL field to configure the URL that will be used for normal (HTTP) connections.

To configure the URL for secure (HTTPS) connections, click the Secure option and then edit the Base URL field. Note that in order to use HTTPS connections for your domain without receiving a warning about the SSL, you need to buy a private SSL certificate.

The information you have shared is really worth. Besides this, there are many points which should be follow up after completing the Magento installation that includes how to add products in Magento, to configure payment methods, configure shipping methods and manage Magento pages.
As ecommerce store is all about selling products online, so the points regarding products, payments & shipping methods should be done properly.

    Hi Experts,

I am trying to setup 5 magento websites with single Magento 1.9.x installation with the same domain name (let's say http://myretailstore.com/) . The requirement is that user login session will be same across all the 5 websites while the catelog, products & pricing is independent for each website. What's the best way to setup this in magento? Can the base url be same for all the 5 websites? if so, how can the server differentiate between each website. We can presume that the user will land onto default landing page on accessing "http://myretailstore.com/" and he can choose one of the 5 stores (i.e website in magento terminology) to browse and order respective products.

    Regards,
    Dan

Magento is one of the world's most popular eCommerce platforms. Developers love it because it's open source, meaning they can customize it to their heart's content. Big businesses love it because it's powerful, and they've got the deep pockets to pay the $50,000+ annual fees for the Premium Enterprise subscription. As such, Magento is perfect for global brands, who've got the budget for Magento Enterprise and to hire a team of developers to put together a bespoke eCommerce store that precisely fits their needs.
